Ontology Alignment

Automatically generated ontology alignments (a.k.a. mappings) often contain erroneous correspondences. Merging these ontologies based on the semantic relations expressed by the alignment will therefore introduce incoherences. This information can be used in the mapping debugging process to support both manual mapping revision as well as automized approaches. This is one of the groups main research topics w.r.t. ontology alignments.

  • The Relevance of Reasoning and Alignment Incoherence in Ontology Matching (Powerpoint, PDF)
Presented at ESWC 2009 Phd-Colloquium, good starting point
    • An Efficient Method for Computing Alignment Diagnoses (Powerpoint)
Presented at RR 2009, describes efficient algorithm for automized alignment debugging in detail
    • Incoherence as a Basis for Measuring the Quality of Ontology Mappings (Powerpoint slides, PDF without animations)
Presented at OM 2008 ISWC-Workshop, describes how to measure incoherence of an alignment
  • A pattern-based ontology matching approach for detecting complex correspondences (PDF)
Presented at OM 2009 ISWC-Workshop, special topic

Semantic Web Basics

In this presentation, we present some basics of the semantic web.

Metametadata

This presentation shows use-cases for metametadata implemented in RDF:

      Interactive Thesaurus Analysis

In this presentation, we propose a method for thesaurus evaluation that is based on a combination of statistical measures and appropriate visualization techniques that supports the detection of potential problems in a thesaurus.

      Distributed Resolution Reasoning

We are working on a distributed resolution reasoner that aswers queries to a distributed ontology by local resolution in the seperate modules of the ontology and communication between the modules.

      • Presentation at Web Reasoning & Rule Systems Conference (PDF Slides)

      Deutscher Bibliothekartag 2008

This presentation was held on the German Librarian Convention 2008 (Deutscher Bibliothekartag), where we presented our Semtinel prototype for efficient detection of problems in a thesaurus.

      NKOS Workshop 2008

At the NKOS workshop. we presented the Semantic Portal Business and Economics project:
