SAP Research Karlsruhe (CEC)

SAP Research's Campus-based Engineering Center (CEC) Karlsruhe is the historic base of SAP Research. The center was founded in 1987 as a strategic investment in the collaboration with the Technical University of Karlsruhe. The goal of the institution was and still is to work on joint projects with academic and research partners.

The group has close connections to SAP research labs in Karlsruhe. Joint interests concern technologies for ensuring semantic interoperability in distributed systems. The group offers topics for study and thesis work in cooperation with SAP research. Internships can be arrange after consultation with SAP. Members of SAP Research Karlsruhe actively participate in teaching activities at the University of Mannheim.

Ontoprise

Ontoprise is the leading provider of industry-proven SemanticWeb infrastructure technologies and products used to support dynamic semantic information integration and information management processes at the enterprise level. With its mature and standards-based products and its know-how ontoprise is delivering a key portion for the upcoming SemanticWeb. The Company was founded in 1999 as a spin-off from Karlsruhe University, Germany to commercialize the technology that had by then already secured a leading position in the growing field of semantic technologies. ontoprise has developed a comprehensive product suite designed to support the deployment of semantic technologies in the enterprise.

The group owns an academic license for the Ontobroker Technology which is used for teaching and in research projects. We offer topics for study and thesis work related to Ontoprise technologies and applications. Internships can be arranged after consultation with Ontoprise.

Syynx Solutions

SyynX Solutions GmbH is a software company which is focused on areas of life and medical sciences. It offers products for knowledge and information management, which structure and analyze texts in natural language, moreover it depicts the texts concisely and analyzes them extensively. Specially developed techniques are used for ontology mapping, text mining and knowledge discovery.

The group has signed a cooperation agreement with SyynX that includes an academic licence for the Collexis Document Indexing and Retrieval Software which is used in the context of teaching and research projects. We offer topics for study and thesis work concerned with the improvement and application of Collexis technologies in cooperation with SyynX. SyynX is also actively involved in the research project "Semantic Portal for Business and Economics Literature"
currently carried out in cooperation with the University Library.


Department of Computational Linguistics University of Heidelberg

The Department of Computational Linguistics at the University of Heidelberg offers B.A. and M.A. courses in Computational Linguistics. The department conducts research in natural language processing, focussing on multilingual syntactic and semantic processing in constraint-based formalisms, automatic lexicon and knowledge acquisition using machine learning techniques, linguistic resource induction and NLP applications such as Question Answering, Textual Entailment, etc.

We offer lectures in Artificial Intelligence and Semantic Web Technologies to students in computational linguistics provided that the lectures are not fully occupied by students from Mannheim. Further the group offers topics for Bachelor, Master and Diploma thesis in cooperation with the Department of Computational Linguistics to students in Heidelberg and Mannheim.
